The Maryland Human Trafficking Task Force reported in 2018 that the 50-mile radius surrounding the BWI airport has become the third-most lucrative area in the state for trafficking in persons. This means buying and selling people for profit!

International airports and major interstate highways which bring tourists by the thousands Baltimore and the surrounding area along with extremes of wealth and poverty that meet in mega-malls, arenas and casinos have provided the demand, the means and the opportunity to people to engage in modern day slavery.

Despite these on-going challenges, Maryland continues to make progress in fighting this heinous crime against human beings. There is more work to do and as a community, WE can make a difference!

ABOUT THE DASH

What is the Dash 4 Dignity?

The Dash 4 Dignity 5K run/walk began its journey in 2014 to promote awareness of domestic human trafficking in and around the Anne Arundel County, MD and raise funds to support freedom for those in the bondage of slavery.

This annual Dash is more than a charity run/walk. As a community event, the Dash hosts an awareness expo with service organizations providing participants with information about how to recognize and report the signs of exploitation along with ways to keep people safe, especially our children and youth.

As the Dash raises awareness of modern-day slavery in our area, the event raises funds for a local outreach to vulnerable individuals in and around Anne Arundel County/South Baltimore, MD.
